Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the most celebrated appellation of the southern Rhône, and one of the few French wine names customers ask for by name. Its wines are built mainly on Grenache, which ripens fully in the region’s hot sun and stony soils, giving warmth, generosity and a silky texture, often supported by grapes such as Syrah and Mourvèdre.
La Bernardine is M. Chapoutier’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Chapoutier is one of the leading names of the Rhône Valley and a pioneer of biodynamic farming there. Expect ripe, round fruit layered with the herbal, peppery character of the south: rich, but never heavy.

📖 Châteauneuf-du-Pape means “the Pope’s new castle”. In the 14th century the papacy moved from Rome to nearby Avignon, and the popes built a summer residence in the village. Its ruins still overlook the vineyards today.
