The Max’s range is named for Max Schubert, the Penfolds winemaker who created Grange in 1951 and in doing so changed Australian wine permanently. The range is positioned above Koonunga Hill and below the icon wines — built to show the house style with more concentration and more serious oak handling.
The Cabernet is the most structured wine in the range. Blackcurrant sits at the centre, framed by cedar and dark chocolate from time in oak, with tannins that are firm but polished rather than austere. It drinks well now with food, and will hold comfortably for several years.

Did You Know?
📖 Max Schubert created Grange in secret after Penfolds management ordered him to stop. He kept making it quietly until the hidden vintages matured — by which point the wine was undeniable. It is now Australia’s most collected red.
🌟 Final Note: Serious Cabernet with a serious story behind it. The bottle to bring when it matters.
