Bain’s Cape Mountain is made at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, in South Africa’s Western Cape, entirely from South African yellow maize. It is distilled in column stills and then matured twice: three years in first-fill bourbon casks, followed by a further 18 to 30 months in a fresh set of first-fill bourbon casks.
That double maturation, helped by the warm Cape climate speeding up the interaction between spirit and oak, gives a whisky that drinks far smoother than its age suggests — soft, sweet and creamy, with plenty of vanilla and toffee. It was South Africa’s first single grain whisky, and has been collecting international medals ever since.

📖 The whisky takes its name from Andrew Geddes Bain, the 19th-century road engineer who built Bain’s Kloof Pass through the mountains above Wellington — the route that opened up the Cape interior. The distillery sits just below the pass.
🌟 Final Note: Smooth, sweet and genuinely different — a world-class grain whisky from an unexpected corner of the whisky map.
